Presenting number 13

I've done quite a few presentations; and have tended to use Powerpoint since it's handy and easy.  I played around with Deck a little, and while it was fun, I don't see that I would use it very much.  I found it easy enough to use, but fairly restrictive, at least the way I do presentations.  Plus it's difficult to use on my phone - the tablet was easier, but I still won't use this much.  If there were a version that was available on my laptop or PC I might be more enthused, but for now I'll stick with PP.

12 Books. Books, books

I like cheap/free books.  The only app I use is the Kindle app on my phone or tablet.  I subscribe to a few email services that alert me to cheap or free books available for Kindle. Sometimes they're "self published" authors, sometimes an early work in an author's canon, etc.  I have gotten quite a few things this way. I get daily emails; sometimes there is duplication, but less than you would expect. The Wattpad and Free Books app would tie in nicely with these.  They would be especially useful for someone wishing to read the "classics."

The audiobooks app would be handy for my husband to try; since he travels so much for work. I usually prefer to read the page rather than listen.  ;)

11 - library and reference

I have the  HCL app on my phone; since I'm at the library all the time, I tend not to use it very much. Unless I'm in a bookstore, and want to see if HCL owns it, and perhaps request a copy. ( Although I've also been known to take a picture of a cover to remind myself to check later.)

Some patrons do seem to be using the app - I've had people come in looking for a book that the app said we had on the shelf.

10 Sharing

I'm familirar with both Instagram and Snapchat - although I don't really have a burning desire to use either one. If I had to choose, I'd probably use Instagram, but I don't share photos that often. I'm not sure that anyone is interested in the grocery list, or several snaps of the garden to see where the sun hits at a certain time. One shot of the garden would be enough!

The "Follow" aspect would probably be fun, but I'd probably follow people I'm already connected to via Facebook, so I already see most of their photos.  So, I think I'll skip this one for now.

9th of the Things

I used Line Camera to add captions to some photos. Fermata is not the Easter Bunny, she just likes baskets.

It was pretty easy to use, although now I'm getting emails asking me to buy stickers, etc.  I've always liked fooling around with captions, etc, so it's handy to be able to do it on my phone.

I tried Color Splurge, because I liked the idea of it, but the actuality of it was a pain in the neck. Mainly I just ended up with blobs; since I don't have a stylus. I may go back and play with it again if I grab a stylus, since I do think the idea is interesting.

There are a few others I might eventually try; Snapseed and Photofy,  but not today!

Thing 8

I use Facebook regularly, Twitter and Linked In occasionally,  and don't use Foursquare or tvtag at all. I do have a Google+ account, but I don't use it much.

I had been interested in using lists in Twitter, and, silly me, had forgotten that you can set up lists right in Twitter. I've started putting some of the people I follow in groups, so that if I'm short on time I can just check what people in my lists are tweeting rather than reading everything. Since I don't get on all the time, I miss a lot; this is an easier way to catch up on some of my interests. 

I don't use apps for either FB or Twitter that push notifications, other than the FB Messenger.  FB messenger is okay - it's an easy way to chat via FB without having to log in. When I first started with FB and Twitter, I did leave them logged in and got constant notifications, which drove me nuts. Even after limiting what my notifications were, it was still annoying. So I just log on to either when I want to see them; I don't have them up all the time.  I do use the App Pulse when I check Twitter.  

So, honestly, I wouldn't get much use out of the apps in this thing, other than the "generic" ones. I did play around with Tweetcaster a little; I set up some lists but was disappointed to see that the tweets didn't display like they do in Twitter. I was amused at some of the slices it set up, though.   I didn't try the others because I tend to keep Twitter and FB separate - if I share to both I post to Twitter and add the #fb hashtag for it to share to FB. (I installed that so long ago I don't even remember what it is. )

Pinning Thing 7

I've had a Pinterest account for awhile, and it's fun. I don't look at it all the time, but when I'm on there I find all sorts of interesting things.  Categories I have include "Recipes in case I ever cook" , Snarktastic; gardening and remodeling things, etc.  Basically the same type of thing most people have. ;)  
One of my friends at work is pinning websites we have in the library subject guides, since those are evidently going away. Since we use those on a daily basis, it will be handy to have that to refer to at least. 
I hadn't used the Pinterest app on my phone, but now that I have it I have used it on occasion; mostly to save something I run across and want to keep for future reference. Since this is what Pinterest is, that's pretty handy. I don't keep it up all the time; I have been known to use it on the bus or when I'm waiting for someone.  It can be quite the timesink...but who wants to do stuff like laundry or dishes anyway??
